The factory was officially established in 1921. It was first named Wuzhou Gubenzao Pharmaceutical Factory, and later renamed Wuzhou Second Pharmaceutical Factory and renamed Wuzhou Pharmaceutical Factory. Formerly known as Shanghai No. 5 Pharmaceutical Factory.
In 1989, the company was promoted to a national second-level enterprise. Now it is a high-tech enterprise in Shanghai.
In May 1995, the company was included in the first batch of modern enterprise system pilot enterprises by the Shanghai Municipal Government.
On September 16, 1996, the company was restructured into a wholly state-owned Shanghai Wuzhou Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.
On April 28, 2001, Shanghai Wuzhou Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. was founded. The company has always attached great importance to winning the trust of customers with superior product quality.
The Wuzhou brand registered in 1912 enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad.

In June 1999, the company's cefradine product won the Outstanding Achievement Award at the 1999 International Chemical Industry Science and Technology Achievement Expo and Achievement Promotion Conference jointly organized by the Hong Kong International Chemical Industry Association and the Singapore Chemical Industry Association.
