Yemen adopts the eighth edition of the Nice Classification of Trademarks/Services. Trademarks related to alcoholic beverages will not be registered. Each application can only contain one category.
Yemen has adopted a unified intellectual property law Decree No. 19 of 1994. The law abolished the 1976 Decree No. 45 on trademarks and trade names and the 1757-1927 Civil Code protecting intellectual property rights in Yemen. According to the decision of the Minister of Justice, starting in November 1995, the Trademark Registration Office in Aden officially transferred all applications, registrations and records related to trademarks, patents and designs to the Trademark Registration Office of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Sana'a. Following this decision, the Sanaa Trademark Registry will take over all applications.
