When you use Shanghai Pudong Development Bank's VISA credit card online banking to spend Japanese yen, you will be charged a foreign currency conversion fee of about 1.5%. If the card is enabled for automatic foreign exchange purchase and repayment, you can repay it in RMB. If it is not activated, you must repay it. Specify foreign currency.
The most common way to use credit cards in Japan is JCB, which is equivalent to China’s UnionPay. If the credit card has a Japanese yen account (with the JCB logo), you can directly swipe the card and deposit it in Japanese yen. If you swipe 1,000 yen, 1,000 yen will be deducted from the account, and you can buy foreign exchange to repay the money when you return to your country.
If the credit card is a UnionPay single-currency card, you can only spend money at places where UnionPay cards are accepted. If you swipe the card directly through UnionPay, then the RMB will be deducted from the RMB, and the Japanese yen will be directly converted into RMB at the exchange rate on the day when the card is debited, and the payment will be repaid directly in RMB after returning home.
Recommendation:
Bring a standard UnionPay card and a JCB card to Japan to avoid more exchange rate losses.
